Trippy
Okay, I decided to take a different approach to my blog header graphic for the time being. Usually I use some sedate and classy looking picture that I've taken, but this time I decided to go all psychedelic with a Photoshoped picture of one of our cats, Patches. I don't know how long it will stay in place (it may even change before any of you read this post), but for the time being, I kind of like it, so it's here to stay for now.

Quick Shots
I just got home from Wal-Mart a little while ago, and there were numerous turkey buzzards flying low over the house. I ran in, grabbed my camera, and tried to grab a few quick shots of them. To keep the birds in frame, I had to have a fairly low zoom, but then I cropped the bird in close in Photoshop, and ended up with these low resolution, but kind of interesting results. The same thing goes for the picture of the moon in the blue evening sky. The final picture, of the thorns, I actually took a little time on, and it's another one of my macro shots. Have a look. :)
Esme's 1st Birthday
Here are some more pictures I took of Esme and Jack at Esme's first birthday. Clare has already posted a couple of these on her blog, but that's okay. Some of them are a little more blurry than I wanted, but I like the pictures, so I posted them. Enjoy.

The 100 Mark
Well, it's official. I've seen over 100 movies (and those are just the DVDs I've recorded) in the last 4-5 months! And most of them I watched by myself, sadly. At least Monica's here to watch them with me now (although she's seen her fair share lately too, thanks to me. *g*) I still want to have movie nights though, but the problem is finding time when I'm home from work early enough (or better yet off for the day), and then finding a time that's convenient for other people to join me (which has proved next to impossible.)
I still don't have a new surround sound system yet, so the movies are lacking the "punch" I was used to, but the picture's nice, especially if we're watching Blue-Ray! Then again, I have an eclectic, and somewhat odd taste in movies, and although I watch plenty of "safe for all audiences" movies, not all of my selections are family friendly.
And speaking of that, let me take a moment to explain my rating system for the movies I've been listing on my page. As you can probably tell, I'm rating the movies I watch on a scale of 1-5 stars (or asterisks in this case.) If I give a movie 1 star, don't even bother watching it unless you're looking for a mindless way to pass the time. Two stars the movie was okay, but you're not missing out on much. Three stars I enjoyed the movie, but people could go either way on it. If I give it four stars, I really enjoyed the movie, but it might not be safe for all family members so I didn't give it full marks. And finally, the coveted five star ranking. These are movies that I thoroughly enjoyed, and that I think other people would enjoy too. They're also safe for all ages (at least I think the ones I gave a 5 star rating are.) I haven't watched many of these, and tend to give most movies I've seen lately a 3-4 star rating, which is still good, because it means I liked the movie a lot.
So there you go. Now you have a better idea of my rating system, and maybe if you're looking for a movie yourself, you can check out some of my recommendations. In the meantime, if you're in the local area and want to hang out some night and watch a movie, just let me know! I'll throw some popcorn in the microwave and we can make a night of it!

Week 4 Entry - Pets
Taken early last year, this is our cat, Patches, as a kitten. He had the most intense blue eyes. Week 4 Entry - Kids
This is my nephew, Jack. I'm reposting this picture as an entry into the "I Heart Faces" photography contest, "The Eyes Have It - Kids", for week 4.

Sunrise
A time I'm not really used to, unless I'm just crawling into my bed after a long night awake.
Monica just left for work about 30 minutes ago, and hadn't been gone for more than 10 before she called me and told me the reason we'd been hearing all the sirens from the emergency vehicles this morning was due to an accident on Lexington Road (right in the path she had to travel for work.) She informed me that all traffic was being redirected onto Arnoldsville Road instead of being allowed to continue up 78. Normally this wouldn't have been a big deal, but this is Monica's first day at her new Home Depot, and she doesn't really know the roads up here yet (having only lived here permanently since Saturday.) Also, we have no idea how long it's going to take her to get to work from here, but 30-45 minutes is the bare minimum, and she only had about an hour.
Well, she called me a few minutes later and told me she was coming up to Robert Hardeman Road, and that the traffic which she'd been following up until now was turning both ways. Fortunately that's a road I'm familiar with, at least by name, and told her to turn left, because I was fairly certain it crossed over 78 on the usual route I, and now Monica, will take to work. So, trusting in my usually sketchy (at least when it comes to roads) driving directions, Monica turned left. She called me a few minutes later and told me she was back on 78 again, which was good (and boosted my confidence in navigating our new surroundings a degree or so.) I told her to call me when she got to work, and then we hung up again.
Five minutes ago (7:38AM) she called and said "I'm in the parking lot." I was stunned. I figured that with the detour and the morning work commute, she'd still have at least another 10-15 minutes of travel ahead of her. But no, she was already there, safe and sound. The whole trip, detour included, took about 40 minutes, just slightly longer than it takes me to get to work, which is to be expected because Home Depot is slightly further away than OfficeMax. At any rate, she's there safely, with a few minutes to get in, get relaxed, and get set to face a new day in a new store.
Keep her in your thoughts today as she's really nervous about starting a new job in a new place. And if you're in the area, don't hesitate to drop in and say hello!

A Warm(er Weather) Homecoming
Monica is finally home for good, and today was our seven year anniversary. We didn't do anything big and spectacular; we just enjoyed the day together. First we went to an early lunch at Crawford's new Chinese restaurant. Then we went to Brian Park to feed the ducks, where I took some more pictures. After that we went and walked around Georgia Square Mall (rather disappointing) while they were changing the oil in my car. And finally we went and did some much needed grocery shopping before returning home to fire up Monica's laptop and catch up with some episodes of one of the TV shows we like (but haven't watched in months.) All in all it was a nice day.
Monica starts her first day at her new Home Depot tomorrow, and is rather nervous. But she is an easy person to like, and makes friends pretty quickly, so I think she'll be fine. If not...well, I'll just have to pay them a little visit and make sure things run smoothly for her. *grinz* It looks like we're going to be working opposing shifts again, for the time being anyway, but at least we're back together in the same house again, and can begin to put our lives back together as a family.
So if you happen to be at the Athens Home Depot, stop by and say hello to Monica. In the meantime, here are a few of the pictures I took at the park today. I hope you enjoy them. Peace.
